1.Welcome & Introduction to the Divine Feminine Journey

I didn’t hatch like this.

I want to get that abundantly clear before we get going.

Oftentimes, people look at healers, yogis, or wellness coaches as people who emerged from nowhere with handfuls of love and light. Ethereal, pragmatic, and perfect.

I used to think that way. But it wasn’t until I started my Holistic Self-Care journey that I realized that my “Perfect Wellness Healer” trope was actually a limiting belief I was placing on myself.

Attributing perfection with wellness meant that I could never participate in it because I was so deeply flawed. So, I ignored that line of questioning while the world around me began to cave in. And as the last shred of light left my life, I realized that I had a choice - stay trapped or save myself. You can probably guess which one I chose.

My healing began with Divine Feminine wisdom. Learning the stories of Goddesses from my culture and others. I learned how for thousands of years, people would flock to her temples and altars to surrender their problems, hear her wisdom, and allow her to work. I learned that the Goddess wanted to liberate me from overwork, stress, and helplessness. She didn’t need worship, or pleading prayers, she needed me to remember my divinity. She wanted me to remember balance, passion, desire, JOY.

From there, I started to craft a routine and adopt rituals that prioritized my happiness, my growth, and my desires. I set boundaries at work to eliminate burnout - something I had been terrified of doing due to a childhood of relying on outside validation to seem worthy. I went from a size 14 to a size 8 by rekindling my love of cooking and finally breaking past my aversions to fitness. I began meditating every day - something I thought I couldn’t do due to my ADHD.

For the first time in my life, I started to feel beautiful, powerful, magical, in control, and ready to actually go after my dream life. So no, I didn’t hatch this way. It’s been (and will continue to be) a journey of discovery. Of triumph and of catastrophe. Of burnout and bliss. But now, I have the knowledge, the understanding, and the tools to Be My Own Icon, to be my own goddess.

And I want that for you as well. I want to help you start your Holistic Self-Care journey because I know what it’s like to give up on yourself and your dreams. Are you ready for your triumph? Are you ready for your bliss?

This will not be easy. We are opening up a massive portal of alchemy and transformation. Old wounds will be uncovered. You will be sad and triggered. But on the other side, you will be transformed. So, let’s get started.

HUSTLE CULTURE IS A SCAM

Welcome to my TedTalk about how millennials were fed hyper-capitalistic bullshit that left us anxious, tired, and passionless.

And boy did I, and millions of others, eat that shit until we were sick. Hustle culture, for those who may not be familiar is a lifestyle and mindset that emphasizes working hard and constantly striving for success. It involves side hustles, monetizing your hobbies, and making yourself a brand - amongst other things.

Only now are publications like Forbes and Psychology Today writing about how detrimental this mindset and lifestyle is for our health.

While achieving your goals and making money are fantastic - A ‘Rise & Grind’ mentality prioritizes ambition, time spent working, and productivity over health, rest, and joy. It posits that you are unable to be successful unless you are working all the time. This is a limiting and false mindset. Hustle Culture is simply scarcity mindset in sheep’s clothing.

Me circa 2016 - Creative, but exhausted from working three jobs and broke.

Because the reality is, most successful and rich people have mastered the art of working less and making more. They take time to be strategic, they know how to delegate, and they stay inspired and passionate. Do people who work 24/7 get rich? Sure, but they do not live a rich life because they are in constant fight or flight, chasing after money instead of having money chase you.

If you are a woman, you are 60% more likely to be burnout. If you are a woman of color, that number increases almost 20%. As a Nigerian-American, this mindset was set into me at a young age. When we talk about generational curse breaking, the curse of overworking and over hustling very rarely gets brought up.

As a Black woman, I watched my grandmother and mother work, day in and day out. Rest and ‘me time’ was not part of their routines at all. And I thank and honor them for their sacrifices. I wouldn’t be here without them. But as the new generation, who is supposed to be doing better, we can honor them by reclaiming our time AND making our time expensive. BONUS CONTENT: THE HISTORY OF GENDERED AND RACIAL BURNOUT

This hustle mindset, this paradigm, is KILLING us. It’s BEEN killing us.

I have several family members who have died due to stress related illnesses or who have chronic aches and pains as a result of long days spent hunched over a laptop or on their feet. When I started to notice those same aches, pains, and sleepless nights in myself, I knew it was time to change.

It is not normal to work 60, 70, 80-hour weeks. It’s not normal to approach every aspect of your life from the point of view of turning a sale.

Work ethic and standards are important. But the two to four job hustle, the endless hours at the firm, the prove your worth tango, should be TEMPORARY if at all. Because guess what? That is not the only path.

Goddesses like Lakshmi, Ishtar, and the Orisha Oya helped me imagine a world where success did not have to come by sacrifice. They showed me that a life of abundance was one of rest and riches and this was my birthright, my namesake.

They put wise women in front of me that were PROOF of the goddess path. These women worked four days a week, had time for facials and the gym, and were the CEOs of brands that they were truly passionate about. At first, I scoffed. Luckily The Goddess was patient with me. And eventually, when I stopped limiting myself. I realized that I had access to this paradigm of abundance, play, and rest. In fact, I wouldn’t even be seeing it, if it was not possible.

Now, in addition to an incredible job with benefits, unlimited PTO, and more. I also get to have my own heart aligned businesses. This is the least I’ve ever worked in my life. And this is the most I’ve ever been paid. And it’s only up from here.

In the next module, I want you to think about why you work. I want you to think about your family’s history with work. And lastly, I want you to be patient and honest with yourself as you uncover your burnout narrative.
